The LoneStarRuby Foundation is committed to expanding the pool of Ruby programmers through sponsorship of programs and events that expand educational opportunities for developers and those who wish to enter the software development career track.
The Foundation (LSRF) was sponsoring a three-day mid-summer Ruby on Rails conference and needed a responsive web application that would disseminate information about the upcoming conference, but also collect information that could be used to fill out the conference schedules with speakers and presenters.
Rather than arbitrarily selecting speakers, presenters and trainers for the conference, the staff of LSRF wanted a web application that would allow ticket purchasers to nominate speakers they would like to hear, allow potential presenters to post information about their topic, and then allow each attendee to vote on what presentations they wanted to have included in the conference schedule. The schedule allowed for a certain number of presentations each day, and each slot could then be assigned to the most requested presenters.
Using the responsive web design architected by CabForward℠, the Foundation initially posted a call for papers several weeks before the Conference, and allowed potential presenters to post information about their presentation directly into the online application. Once those submissions were audited by the Conference staff for appropriateness, each submittal was published on the site and combined with topics and presenters requested by ticket purchasers. Ticket purchasers could then vote for their most desired presentations, and the highest ranked were then arranged into the schedule.
The new application is a responsive web based tool which allows conference organizers to streamline the content selection process, and ensure the topic(s) of the conference meets the expectations of the attendee. The application is a multi-tenant Ruby on Rails implementation which utilizes j-query and backbone, and is mobile capable.
The LoneStarRuby Foundation web application provides Tech Thought Leaders and Up-and-Coming Innovators with up to the minute conference information and schedule status, registration, topic submittal, rating and voting functions. The application helped LSRF ensure that the content of their conference is what attendees wanted to learn about, and every topic was relevant. This approach helped increase attendance at the conference, and helped attendees get maximum value from their presence.
LSRF had very specific needs and goals for their application, and needed a development partner with the professionalism of a large agency at a cost they could afford, and deliver their application in a timely manner The CabForward℠ Special Projects Team again allowed the project to be driven by our customer. They had a laundry list of things they wanted to get done, and we were able to meet and exceed their expectations.
