CabForward is a slam dunk! Their expertise brought StatKid to life.Jeff Flowers, Founder of Statkid
An idea is born
While keeping track of his son’s points, rebounds and assists during a high school basketball game, StatKid founder Jeff Flowers realized he had a great idea for an app. He decided then and there that he could create something much better – an app that lets parents track a player’s statistics and makes it simple to share the player’s details with family and friends.
A talented graphic designer, Jeff knew that to be successful the app had to look great – as well as be intuitive and easy to use. As Jeff said, “I tinkered with it for a while and thought it would be simple. Boy, was I mistaken.”
Enter CabForward. “Their CEO, Lance Vaughn, was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I liked his energy and insightfulness and I loved his collaborative approach.” Jeff hired CabForward to build an iOS application that would be simple and easy to use. CabForward also suggested that they develop a strong monetization plan for the completed app.
Bringing StatKid to life
The team at CabForward walked Jeff through the entire process of building and launching the app from start to finish. “There were so many steps in the process, things I had no clue about. CabForward always had the answers.” One of the things Jeff valued was CabForward’s ability to see possible problems and avoid them before they became an issue. “They were always accessible, super responsive, and they really stuck to the budget!”
From solving layout issues to making sure that the app fit all the phone sizes and specifications, CabForward brought Jeff’s vision to life. Once the app was built, Apple still needed to certify it.
Jeff says, “CabForward was great about pushing it through the approval process quickly. They turned changes around on a dime.”
Of course, it’s not enough to have a great app, you still have to sell it. CabForward delivered a promotion plan and continues to work in conjunction with StatKid to drive downloads of the application in the App Store. The team also created an animated video to use in digital marketing promotions, including Instagram and Facebook ads.
Great work yielded great results
Of the finished StatKid app, Jeff says, “It’s a great way to show off what your kids are doing. All the parents on the team were begging for the app when it was finished. It’s been very well received.” Last summer when StatKid was featured in Apple’s App Store, sales took off. Now Jeff is looking forward to basketball season when he expects to see demand explode. He is already planning to expand the app to work with Android devices. “This was a great learning experience. Thanks to CabForward, I have a great platform – I can see adding football, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse!”
“The CabForward team really cared about the app – they were as excited as I was. I didn’t feel like I was just a client, there was a real partnership there.”Jeff Flowers, Founder of StatKid
